Brain Injury as the result of a trauma or insult to the brain is a part of human life since its beginning but as a result of modern medical support this issue is becoming vital day by day. Thousands in Persistent Vegetative State, Minimally Conscious State or Locked in Syndrome are lying in their beds are looking to the world to find a way for their coming back. Neurologists are mapping the brain since decades but they don't have a way to know about the consciousness and the scale about consciousness is not applicable to these patients because their loss of motor function. There are almost no results of any sort of medication given to these patients. Brain healing is now being considered but there is no way found to enhance the speed of natural brain healing. Unfortunately all research work is now kept limited to the laboratories and that is not fruit full in this field. I look some possibility if they go to history of local medicine of the ancient world and try to find something there especially in the east and Africa. An important thing is the fear of civil cases which did not allow the change of view to the medical side.
In my view and experience most of these patient are some what conscious but the shock to the brain makes them make them very weak and mean while loss of motor function show them totally disable and it is just presumed that they are unconscious. I am little afraid that medicines given to them for their brain may be damaging their brains and trying to keep their brain some peaceful can be a hurdle in the process of the natural brain healing.It is the time to think for the revival of the whole issue and a new effort shall be made with the help of rehab personals and caregivers. Cases of recovery of such patients shall be very carefully examined and some way shall be adopted to monitor the cases in general view.
